Another stop on the Journey

The first leg of our vacation, the first stop over on the train ride is Chicago.  We will have another layover here later in the summer and a couple days in the city mixed with business as well.  But next week, we get off one train at 8:50 am and get on another at 1:50 headed for California.

So here we are with a bit less than 5 hours. We will have breakfast and then attempt to negotiate the bus or trolley to the Lincoln Park Zoo.

Should be fun, will give us some walking around and outside during our 4 day ride.

  1. A four-day train ride? Are you insane?! I’ll be curious to hear how it goes.

  2. Sounds like fun! I finally figured it out and you are on my bloglines!!! WOO HOO!

  3. Whoa! When I think about you I will pray that the ride is fun and that you make a lot of WONDERFUL memories.

  4. KravMom, yes – I may be nuts but airfare is outrageous over the 4th and train travel is free for my family. I have planned and packed and hoping it will be OK. I am more worried about the 4 days coming home.

Steph – Yay. I haven’t finished my blogroll yet either, but I do get to your site periodically – though I don’t comment much these days 🙂

Alison – prayers are greatly appreciated. And that is my hope that it will be a great bonding experience.

We have dominoes, UNO, hooked on phonics, Green Eggs & Ham, Go Dog Go, coloring books, journals, camera, and A brand new copy of “A Wrinkle in Time” to read aloud. Oh and the ipod with music and books; plus I have a small cross stitch, a bible study in revelations, and eliot perlmans book I can’t remember the title something with a seven in it, for if Em falls asleep and I cant.

I think we are covered. Plus there is the observation lounge and the dining car.

  5. Wow, the train ride sounds fun!!!! Have a wonderful time!

  6. We took a train vacation when I was in elementary school, and I still remember it fondly. The dining car, watching the scenery go by, being able to use the bathroom whenever you want, even a trian romance (small, inconsequencial, but I remember it being romantic and fun). Remember the train bathroom rules – take a wide stance, use all available hooks and holding devices for bags and jackets, and never, ever, let anything touch the floor.
