Three Things Thursday

Songs I love:

1.  Amazing Grace – especially sung in old black southern gospel style by a female with a deep voice.  I have already told my family that’s how I want it done at my funeral – but I will take it any day from now till then as well.

2. I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me  – I was out of the loop when this song first became popular and I first heard it as part of our church’s Children’s Christmas Pageant – Three Wise Men and a Baby – December 2004.  Emily didn’t sing that song as her tryout, but during the production that became her favorite so when Christmas was over we got Worship Jamz and listened to it a lot.  I didn’t hear the Mercy Me version until we moved to VA.  Now, Ben and Emily have just begun working on the music to play/sing it at church.  Of Course, that sweet sound will always be my favorite version.  But the words — it just reaches me – the wonder and beauty and all the ways that worship can and will likely be.  I love it.

3. Stand by Me by Benny King.  First time my insides felt googly around my future husband, he was lip syncing that song.  It would be many months and several more songs before I acknowledged that feeling.

Bonus:  It’s a new love, so we will have to see if it stands the test of time, but I love Do I Make You Proud, by Taylor Hicks.  The first time I heard it, I thought that is the new “Friends” by Michael W. Smith – will be sung at every graduation type event for the next ten years.
