Having Grandma here is pretty cool.

Ben and I had our first date last night since we moved to Virginia.  I came home from work early.  We went to P.J. Skidoos a local restaurant I have wanted to try for a long time.

We held hands across the table and talked about Emily and Grandma and work and vacation.

Get this, I had filet mignon with crab meet, asparagus and bernaise sauce all piled up high like something on the tv food network.  The service was fabulous.  A young guy made good recommendations, was unpretentious and quick with whatever we wanted and almost unnoticeable.  The atmosphere was upscale casual.  Lovely.

Then we went to see a movie.  Of course when we have both the time and money, and sans kiddo – there’s not much playing.  We agreed on two choices, but missed the start of both and didn’t want to wait till the next (it was snowing outside, the same week it also hit 80 here).  So we saw a family film.  Night at the Museum.  It was a cute movie.  Not for too little ones or middle ones that are scared by things jumping out.  Owen Wilson is a crack up.  I don’t like his stff with Will Farrell, but put him in something with a smidgeon of taste and wit, and he can’t be beat.

We stopped at CVS on the way home for some tylenol pm.

We were home by 9:30.

It was a good time, we hope to do it regularly while he is in training because when training is over he will likely have a crazy schedule again where we safeguard every moment of family time.

And, yeah… I know.  We are old.

  1. Are you kidding me? That sounds like the perfect date to me. (Maybe I’m old, too)
