Three Things Thursday – the birthday blues

  1. One thing about working for the government is that 38 is still young.  I got an email from an exec this week that said  – “Thanks Kiddo”
  2. I took the youthful reference as a compliment (a sure sign I am not young anymore)
  3. As I struggle with what I want to do with my career, I feel mixed signals about peope being pleased with my work, and not yet trusting me for full national program responsibility.  I think some of that has to do with the age spectrum in my agency.

  1. Happy Birthday?

  2. I know EXACTLY how you feel re: compliments at work, yet not feeling fully trust with the level of responsibility you feel you can handle. I’m totally there. And feeling very mixed about my job as well.

  3. My husband was just saying he works with a woman who had her 38th anniversary at their corporation. He will be 39 in October. She calls him, “Kid” sometimes.

He was feeling his age and said, “At 38, you can’t really be called a kid anymore.”

Except by someone in their 60’s, we both agreed.
