On My Front Porch

The setting:   The chocolate has been opened and sampled.  The ham dinner has been served, sampled, and cleaned into leftover portions.  My 8 year old is sitting on the front porch with her bongo drums, passing a quiet Easter afternoon, while her father is upstairs sick and I am reading and watching old movies.Along comes a 9 year old boy, visiting neighbors.  They chat in the way only kids who have known each other all of 5 minutes can.Him:  I am going to the University of Texas when I grow up.Her:  I am going to Notre Dame.Him:  They don’t have a good football team.  They never win. Then they kept playing the bongos and doing cartwheels on the front yard grass.
